Tasting Notes
Luscious flavors of honeyed pear, butterscotch, citrus and ginger with delicate hints of mineral and spice carry through on the seemingly endless finish.

Wine Spectator

Very plump and enticing, with citrus peel, quince and golden apple notes followed by a round, fresh finish. Underlying minerality lends an elegant feel. Opens nicely in the glass. Drink now through 2009. 1,500 cases imported.

Score: 90. —James Molesworth, 2008.

Wine Advocate

The Raats Family's 2007 Chenin Blanc reflects minerally diverse terroir and 20% barrique fermentation, though I have to say that the increase in complexity and richness vis-a-vis their "Original" bottling will strike many tasters as not worth the price. Spiced pear and musk melon aromas introduce a lushly-textured, subtly leesy, smoke-tinged, but rather bitter palate, and those same characteristics dominate this wine's undeniably lasting but faintly warm finish. I would plan to drink it over the next 6-9 months.

Score: 87. —David Schildknecht, August 2008.
